ISM is a year long course that was created in Frisco ISD that allows students to basically create their own curriculum. Everyone chooses a topic that they are interested in pursuing in their future, and they partake in my things such as research, interviews, and projects that pertain to that topic.
The class is structured by our teacher, and the students have specific things that they have to do, but it's up to the students to decide what they study and how they go about it.
Interviews are conducted in order to gain more knowledge about topics, as well as have the hope of gaining a mentor. Once a student feels comfortable enough with an interviewee, they may ask them to be their mentor.
The mentor will then work hand in hand with the student in order to create an original work and final product for the student's ISM journey.
Progress is documented throughout the year, and presentations are given in order to show what the students have learned and created.
IMPORTANCE OF ISM
Students are able to further their understanding of topics that interest them for their future. It's a hands on experience that allows students to get an idea of what it would be like if they had this topic as an occupation.
Students also learn important lessons such as public speaking, how to dress professionally, time management, and work ethic.
